What are the Basic Requirements for an Airplane Private Pilot License? The requirements for being issued a private pilot license are governed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

To obtain a private pilot's license, you must

  • must be at least 16 years old to Solo
  • have a current FAA third-class medical certificate
  • log at least 40 hours of flight
  • have at least 20 hours of flight with an instructor
  • have at least 10 hours of solo flight
  • pass the FAA Private Pilot Airmen Knowledge written test
  • pass an FAA Private Pilot Practical Exam

Our curriculum takes you through three phases of learning:

  • initial/presolo
  • advanced maneuvers/cross-country operations
  • preparation for the practical test.

While the minimum flight time is 40 hours of flight, the national average to obtain a private pilot licence is 71 hours. Our program is designed to have you completed in 50 hours of total flight time. The actual time depends on the individual, however if the lessons are followed correctly, finishing in 50 hours should not be difficult.
